Wedding Photographer - Krista Fox

Spring has arrived. This means that the wedding season has started. This evening, we were honored to have the amazing wedding photographer Krista Fox share us with her extensive experience in the industry. Her work is well known and has been featured in many of the wedding magazines including WedLuxe Magazine, Wedding Bells Magazine, Elite Wedding Magazine (USA), etc.

She is an editorial style photographer. The use of natural light, particularly backlit is her signature. She also loves to engage the environment into the pictures. Below is a classic example of her beautiful work.

She is also a destination wedding photographer, who loves to travel to new places. Isn't it the dream of everyone? She gave us, as a photographer, some behind the scene tips & advice on this.

1. You love to shoot.
2. You love to travel.
3. You are willing to sacrifice your time with your family and other business during the travel period (once she had to give up 6 jobs for a destination wedding). See... here's the first pro & con.
4. This is NOT a vacation.

Why? Because this is a high pressure job. Once you are on the flight, unless you have a second shooter, otherwise, you will have to handle ALL situations (aka challenges & issues) on your own.
Sickness, thefts, equipment malfunction, unexpected circumstances, etc. There is no backup you could call like you could when you are at home.

It is also your responsibility of arriving early enough to avoid flight delays, researching the location prior to departure and location scouting upon arrival. Needless to say, you have to pack all the gear you need (but how are you going to balance luggage weight?). You got to be smart on how you pack them - which ones for carry-on, which ones can be checked that could be afforded for damages, delay or even lost luggages.

The more importantly, different countries have different rules. You have to find it out. Besides, different venues have their own rules. Do they allow the bride & groom to bring their own photographer? This is something you need to ask as a photographer. There are more that can be added. At the end of the day, this is not a simple 'click and shoot' job that Uncle Fred can do.

If you are a bride- or groom-to be, hope you understand a bit more of our job and wish you all the best on your big day.

If you are a photographer, including myself :), wish you all the best on your journey to become a successful photographer.

Have a good evening, everyone!
